Get Started

A major study found that Christians who read (or listen to) the Bible at least four days a week demonstrate more spiritual maturity than those who do so less often. This is so significant the study calls this statistic THE POWER OF FOUR. We want everyone at OBC to develop this habit. So we invite you to join us as we read the entire New Testament together for 90 days!

The plan starts on January 13, 2025. We will read together daily and complete the New Testament by April 12, 2025. We encourage you to read every day, but aim for at least 4 days a week. Missed a day? You can choose to catch up or simply skip to today’s reading. The goal is not perfection, it’s to develop a habit.

Power of 4 Process:

1. Prepare: Begin with prayer. Ask God to lead you as you read today’s passages.

2. Read: Read today’s passages, then identify one section that stands out. As you read, be open to how God leads you. Is there a word, phrase or concept that stands out to you?

3. Contemplate: Offer your reflections back to God in prayer. Give thanks to Him and ask for guidance:“God, how should I respond to what I’ve read today?”

4. Respond: What is God leading you to do with what you have read? Ask for God’s help to apply this to your life.

Fasting

Beginning:

Fasting is simply abstaining from something you normally enjoy in order to focus your attention on God, to make space for God. Fasting reminds us how dependent on God we are. Fasts in the Bible are often done when preparing for an important or difficult task or decision; when seeking God's guidance; for deepening prayer.

Some Passages For Meditation While Fasting:

  • Psalm 23

  • Psalm 37:4

  • Psalm 40

  • Psalm 42

  • Psalm 73:25-28

  • Psalm 139

  • Isaiah 6:1-4

  • Matthew 5:1-12

  • Luke 1:46-55

  • Luke 1:67-79

  • John 1:1-5

  • John 17:3

  • Ephesians 1:3-4

  • Philippians 2:5-11
